Xcellerate is part of Screen East’s £2.5m recently launched ERDF scheme. The overall scheme will run until 31st December 2008 and is composed of three non-mutually exclusive programmes:
• The Screen East Content Investment Fund (CIF)
• The Screen East Project Investment Fund (PIF)
• Xcellerate (The audiovisual business support programme – ABSP)
Whilst the CIF and PIF are primarily targeting established professionals in film and TV production, Xcellerate provides access to the industry for existing and newly established small and medium-sized enterprises including freelances/sole traders.
Xcellerate will provide the mechanism for small and micro businesses located in the East of England’s Objective 2 areas to commercialise their ideas into viable business propositions through targeted training and the provision of appropriate, high-quality vocational experiences.
It is envisaged that the scheme will provide a fast-track route for some Objective 2 businesses to access the CIF and PIF schemes.
Screen East is seeking applications from the film, TV and digital content (games, mobile content) providers for innovative training schemes. These might include:
• Short courses in key generic business disciplines – sales & marketing, distribution, finance, book-keeping, project management
• Short courses in area-specific business disciplines – Financial planning and modeling for Film and TV
• Vocational, sector specific group vocational training for groups of trainees on “real” projects
Each trainee will be individually supported (mentored) through the experience with the intention of producing a record of their professional development and a career development or business plan.
Xcellerate is drawing interest from a number of important academic institutions across the East of England in respect of the new Foundation Degrees.
