If I send my script in will you read it and provide feedback or a reader’s report?
We don’t offer a script feedback service when you send a script in or apply formally.  However, if we decline your formal application we will tell you the reasons why. There are other organisations that that provide high-quality feedback service, such as the Script Factory.
Will you provide funding for my short film?

We will continue to support short film through our work with the UK Film Council on Digital Shorts.  Although we will not provide full production funding for short films outside of our official schemes, we will consider completion funding for short films made in the region on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Sam Burton on 01603 776926 or at production@screeneast.co.uk.

Do you fund Television development and production?
We are in the process of reviewing our TV development and production strategy and will update you through www.screeneast.co.uk and our monthly e-bulletin how our resources for TV development and production will be allocated.
What do you mean when you say you want ‘cinematic’ projects?
We mean films with easily identifiable cinema audiences that have depth of emotion and a powerful narrative drive, plus a strong visual and emotional landscape.
Your bracketing of projects seems rather prescriptive.  Aren’t you just looking for projects that are derivative?
This is a guideline of what is and isn’t working, as defined by box office figures.  Use it as a yardstick but always start with an idea of who your audience is.  We’re looking for projects that are distinctive – not derivative.
Does the film have to be set in the East of England?
Not if the key talent (writer, producer or director) is resident in the East of England.  See our guidelines on eligibility for full details.
Will you fund a co-production?
Yes, Screen East is likely to be one of a number of funding partners.
What is Screen East's role in the editorial process?
Our level of input depends on the project stage and our level of investment.  We will seek to have an appropriate level of input with development and production finance. We will appoint a script editor to work with you. This is financed as part of the total sum awarded.
I’m a writer living in London with a story idea based in the East of England.  Am I eligible for script development funding?
No. Our funding for individuals is restricted to those based in the region.  However, in some cases we offer funding to companies who have strong links to regional talent, whose story has strong ties to the region or who are filming their project in the East of England.
I have made a short film and don't know how to get it seen - what can you do to help?
Our marketing manager can give advice on how to go about getting your film distributed or screened.
How do you make decisions on script development funding?
We can support approximately 20 scripts each year.  Careful consideration goes into examining the creative quality and commercial viability of the script, including the strength of the story, audience and market appeal, the track record or previous work of the writer, director or producer.  Our fact sheets cover the types of films that have proved to be more viable at the box office.
Who assesses my application for funding?
Applications are assessed both internally and also externally – all scripts have external professional readers’ reports.  Projects are discussed in detail at internal lottery meetings and then again at funding committee meetings. The funding committee – which is made up of members of the Screen East board with a range of relevant skills and experience – have the final decision.
I’ve been turned down for development funding? What feedback can I get?
If we decline your funding application we will outline the reasons why in the decline letter.
I’m in full-time education, am I eligible for production funding?
  No.

My short film has got into a festival.  Will you assist me with costs towards attending?

Limited funds of up to £500 are made available each year for travel and project promotion through our Small Awards Fund.  Check with the Production department to see if there are any available before you apply
