How will I know about the funding available from Screen East?
Check our website. We regularly update it with details of what’s available.
We also circulate information and updates through our regular e-bulletin. You can subscribe here.
•
What are the different types of funding you offer?
RIFE cannot fully fund projects. You must provide match funding (also called partnership funding) in cash or in-kind towards the total budget.
•
What is match funding?
Screen East funding only meets a proportion of the cost of your project. Match funding is the contribution you have to make from your own resources in cash and from other sources. Sources of match funding can come from applications to other organisations, in-kind contributions (e.g. services at no charge) and partnership funding. See our RIFE funding guidelines for levels of match funding that we require.
•
How long does it take to reach a funding decision? (Why does it take so long)?
Screen East receives a high volume of applications for funding. For every application received, Screen East staff complete a two-stage assessment process, which includes assessing your application, researching your organisation, and writing a report for our funding committee. Doing this properly takes around 3-6 weeks. A general rule is to apply a month before the next meeting date. We’ve provided a step-by-step guide to the process in our RIFE funding guidelines.
•
Do I have to pay anything back?
Yes. Screen East provides investment funding, NOT grants. You will normally have to agree to a
re-payment schedule for the investment and a return premium on the principal invested.
•
Do you offer retrospective funding?
No. Screen East can only offer funding for projects that must start after or still be in progress on the funding committee date. You must ensure you submit your application to us with enough time for assessment.
How do I establish audience targets as required in your funding guidelines?
Audience targets are based on the seating capacity of the venue and what percentage of seats you estimate are likely to be filled for each screening in the programme. These figures will enable you to calculate box-office income that can form part of the partnership income required in your application.
